HEREU’s approach to craft is guided by tradition and defined by a contemporary aesthetic. The network of manufacturers producing HEREU pieces has been making leather goods for generations. Located across Spain, many of these workshops remain family-owned, with knowledge passed down over time through lived experience and practice.
This sense of lineage informs a thoughtful approach to production, allowing for handmade processes rooted in longevity. Techniques include traditional leatherworking, as well as specific weaving and stitching methods that require time and training to master. Much of the work is done by hand, meaning that only a small number of pieces can be made each day.
The preservation of these skills is essential to HEREU, as is the fair treatment and compensation of its manufacturing partners.
Materiality also plays a central role in the process, with a focus on high-quality, locally sourced leathers. Working across a wide spectrum of finishes, from soft and supple to dense and structured, enables the design team to create forms that reinterpret familiar templates.
Spanish leather is used in many HEREU styles, including the brand’s signature moccasins. Based in the Galician town of Padrón, HEREU’s partner tannery has been operating since the 1870s and continues to supply leather to leading names in footwear and fashion.
Many of HEREU’s collections incorporate traditional craft references. A recurring woven motif appears across styles, from crossbody bags shaped in supple calfskin to structured riding boots detailed with interlaced leather. These elements reflect the brand’s enduring interest in simplicity and form, an exploration of leather’s potential through restraint and precision.
HEREU continues to work in this way, honouring the beauty of the handmade and offering understated pieces designed for everyday use. By drawing from time-honoured methods, the brand creates collections with a consistent and lasting character.
